| Summary | 0000092: IAMs don't release from bottom (closest) half of LAR | ||||
| Description | JDAMs and WCMDs fail to release once target range is (about) halfway inside the LAR, closer to RMIN1. Demonstration video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCcJrQalp58, showing: - A level release from medium altitude (14k) in the IAM Training TE - A low-level pop-up in the IAM Training TE - A level CBU-105 release from a multiplayer Bear Trap campaign | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | 1. Start the IAM Training TE as the 0000002 ship with JDAMs 2. Normal IAM setup (align JDAMs, select a target) 3. Once in range, wait until the range caret is in the bottom half of the LAR, closer to RMIN1 than it is to RMAX1 4. Hold pickle Expected behavior: - If the LAR is shown on the HUD and the range caret is between RMAX1 and RMIN1, the IAM is within valid release parameters. Holding pickle shows REL on the SMS and the bomb is released after a delay of up to 1.6 seconds - If the IAM is out of parameters (range, bearing, pitch, speed, etc.), LAR is not shown on the HUD, per -34 page 240 - If the user stops holding pickle before the bomb is released, it becomes HUNG on the SMS and cannot be re-released except via jettison, per -34 page 243 Current behavior: - If pickle is held when the range caret is close to RMAX1, the bomb releases successfully - If pickle is held when the range caret is closer to RMIN1, the bomb will not release. The SMS will show REL for as long as pickle is held but the bomb will not come off. - If the user stops holding pickle, the bomb can be used again and will release successfully on a subsequent pass if the range caret is close to RMAX1 | ||||

| Not a bug see forum | |
| Why would it not be a bug? Doesn't make much sense to me if it's inside the launch zone it should be able to drop else it wouldn't be in the launch zone but inside of Rmin. | |

Relevant sections of the MLU manual that Blu3wolf hosts at http://falcon.blu3wolf.com/Docs/MLU_M3.pdf (where the BMS -34 seems to copy from): "R MAX1 / R MIN1 ([). The maximum and minimum weapon kinematic ranges form an outer staple (kinematic release zone) that opens to the right. Releasing the weapon with the target range caret between R MAX1 and R MIN1 (within the kinematic release zone) ensures that the weapon can get to the target. How- ever, the weapon may not arrive with enough energy to meet all end-game parameters such as impact angle, impact azimuth, and minimum impact veloc- ity. With the exception of the JSOW, IAM weapon releases are inhibited until the target range cue is between R MAX1 / R MIN1 . The kinematic release zone is based on current aircraft flight conditions." "Weapon Release Button for JDAM and WCMD. The weapon release button is hot in all applicable delivery submodes whenever the aircraft is within the kinematic release zone (R MAX1 to R MIN1 ) of the weapon. Weapon release can be initiated in one of two ways: 1) if the aircraft is within R MAX1 to R MIN1 , weapon release will be initiated when the pickle button is depressed, 2) if the aircraft is outside of R MAX1 to R MIN1, hold the pickle button depressed and fly the aircraft into the DLZ at which time the release sequence will be initiated. " Both of those affirm that: - JDAMs and WCMDs should release whenever the range caret is inside the staple bounded by RMAX1 and RMIN1 - LAR updates based on "current aircraft flight conditions". The range at which the bomb cannot aerodynamically brake to reach the target is RMIN1, and the HUD symbology should reflect this. |

| Just a suggestion with regards to "see forum" - it may prove helpful to provide a link to specific forum discussions, as otherwise people might be confused about which forum discussion. Even on just the BMS forums, there are quite a few different threads so far. | |
| Check fix possibly 4.35 U2 ( if it exists) | |
